Are you interested in moving to Woodcreek?

Dear New or Would-Be New Resident:

Welcome to the City of Woodcreek; we hope your residency willbe an enjoyable experience for you and your family.

City ordinances cover areas such as signs, animal control, vehicle, RV, trailer and boat parking, and building permits. One of the biggest misunderstandings is that building permits are not only required for new construction, they are also required for additions, accessory buildings, fences, pools and patios.

There are two situations particular to the Hill County area with which you may not be familiar. One is the over abundance of white-tail deer and the problems they cause. With the City having twice as many deer as the area can support, Texas Parks and Wildlife recommends residents not feed the deer; therefore the City has a ban on deer feeding.

The second problem is oak wilt, a fungus affecting red and live oaks. Over 100,000 oaks have already died in Central Texas. We have had several infestations in the City in the past and we all need to be observant for signs of this disease. The City requires permits to cut oak trees to make certain cuts are painted and that trimming only occurs during periods when oak wilt is least likely to spread.

The City collects a property tax; for the year 2006 the amount was $ .10 per $100.00 appraised value. This tax is collected by the Hays County Tax Assessor's Office, along with county, school, fire and EMS taxes. The Hays County Tax Assessor's bill goes out in October or November. The City also collects a one-percent sales tax.

If you have any questions, please contact City Hall. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Gloria Whitehead
Mayor
